What sericite can be used for? ----Part 3: Sericite in Plastic Industry

Application of sericite mica in the plastic industry:














Sericite mica, also knowns as fine grained muscovite, with its unique fine scale structure and silky luster performance, significantly improves the optical properties of plastic products when used as a reinforcing filler in the plastic industry. It enhances the airtightness, rigidity, heat resistance, and dimensional stability of plastic products, distinguishing it from other inorganic fillers.


Plastic products filled with sericite mica experience a considerable increase in mechanical strength, and the plastic does not undergo warping or deformation, imparting excellent dimensional stability to the products. It also provides functions such as UV shielding, resistance to infrared radiation, and blocking of microelectromagnetic waves. Additionally, it improves aging resistance, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, insulation, reduces combustibility, wear resistance, and permeability of the products. It enhances the dielectric properties of thermosetting plastics.


For example, adding 50% sericite mica powder to polypropylene increases the products' breakdown resistance by 1.3 times and raises the dielectric constant by more than 40%. When sericite mica powder is applied to nylon 6, it enhances the rigidity and heat resistance of nylon 6, reduces its molding shrinkage, and significantly lowers the production cost of nylon 6, thereby strengthening its market competitiveness.


The performance of hard polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products with wet ground sericite mica powder is superior compared to the addition of common fillers such as activated calcium carbonate, calcined kaolin, talc, etc. The quality fully complies with national standards and is beneficial for plastic processing enterprises to reduce production costs and improve product quality.
