Watermelon Ketone, also known as Calone or Methylbenzodioxepinone, is a chemical compound with the CAS number of 28940-11-6. It has a molecular formula of C10H10O3 and a molecular weight of 178.18 g/mol. It has a distinctive “sea-breeze” odor with slight floral and fruit overtones. It is used as a scent component in perfumes, especially those with marine or aquatic themes. It was discovered by Pfizer in 1966 and has been widely used since the 1980s. It is similar in structure to some pheromones of brown algae and also to some sedatives of the benzodiazepine class.
